Crazy Happy Pretty

I finally folded and gave into the calf boots and skinny jeans trend. These were only ~$25 at Ross and they are surprisingly comfortable for Ross shoes (usually they are cheap but super uncomfortable). I hope they work for my western style weekend in Arizona.

This is for Samantha at EveryShadeInbetween. Her daily outfit posts inspired  to do the same. This is what I am wearing today.Shirt and pants from NY&Company, belt and shoes form Target and earings from 5andUnder on Etsy. Do I look like I’m on a business safari?

So I found this blog on a friends Facebook today and thought it was crazy awesome. As soon as I got home from work I had to try it out. However I do not own any sewing supplies besides a small fast-fix box and no sewing machine. This box only has one tiny needle in it. I was determined though and set about trying on, cutting, trying on, cutting. I did do a little hand sewing.

Here is how the dress started, my apologies, the photo is awful.

As you can see (sort of), its long and loose, has funny sleeves and a floppy collar. It has a tie so I can wear it tight enough but it is a weird length and it’s hard to keep the bodice buttons together. The top layer is a thin netted print and underneath it has a satin-ish liner that peeps out at the bottom. I like that part.

I cut a good chunk off the bottom so it would hit above knee. I then cut off the sleeves and the buttons. I cut the liner out of the back top of the dress to make it cooler. I also cut off the collar. I tucked and stitched the shoulders together because they were so big. I dd not have matching thread for this part. I hand stitched the lapels to the inside to form a V-neck and sewed the buttons back on but also the dress together under them. Here is how it turned out.

Add a little tank top and it’s ready to go. Massive improvement right? I like to think so! I hope I can borrow a sewing machine and finish the bottom, it needs to be hemmed or I am pretty sure it will unravel. I really want to try this again but with a sewing machine.

What is the last thing you cut up and re-used?

I feel sort of urban warfare today.

It could just be the epaulets.

I was just complaining to Spring on Tuesday that I rarely had an opportunity to dress up anymore. I don’t work in an office with many people (try two others) so there is not much of a point. But then I check my email and saw that my girlfriend U had invited me to a networking party she was attending Wednesday evening. It was being held at the University Club in the penthouse suite of Symphony Towers and was free to members and two guests. Yeah I signed up!

Do I look like I work downtown?

I got there early and ended up sharing the elevator with the head of the networking group that was using the space that night. This was particularly good because U had signed up some random names on the guest list and I was worried that I would not be able to get into the party. Walking in along with the main coordinator fixed that.

U showed up and we snagged a 4 seater near the window (wait, the whole place was windows!)

I had a lot of fantastic finger food (amazing coconut shrimp) and way to much chardonnay (good thing my amazing husband was nice enough to drop me off AND pick me up after the party.

check out the view!

One of the best parts of the party happened when some land developer was trying to chat me up. He asked if I would join him for happy hour downtown sometime. I politely informed him that I was married and prefered to attend happy hour with my HUSBAND. Yes!! Shot Down!

I am in a pretty awesome mood today.

1. I only have three days of work and then I am off to Florida for a wedding. This is VERY exciting because I LUV all the people I will be seeing at the wedding. I am also excited because I am going to surprise-gift the happy couple. I did this when another member of their family got married and I think it went over well. I got excited on the drive to work today thinking about how I could wrap said package. Like glossy black wrapping paper and a sexy red bow?

Anyway, getting ready for this wedding has given me the excuse to get a mani-pedi and buy a ‘few’ new clothes and that always makes a girl feel better (is that sexist to say? Whatever).

2. I had a long chat conversation with my little sister who lives in another country. She is visiting me this summer and I have ALL SORTS of plans. Pretty exciting. I also found a great computer for her to buy and even though I insisted she buy it RIGHT THEN she decided to wait a day or two when she was not on a shady computer and make the purchase. I hope that the computer was still available. Of course looking at computers for her got me started on looking at computers for me because my PowerBook is like 5 years old and very sad.

3. It’s my birthday this month! I make my birthday a BIG DEAL and try to get everyone around me to make it a BIG DEAL as well. This year we have friends in town so it will be pretty exciting to have actual people show up to my Birthday and actually be there for me, unlike last year where I (gratefully) shared my birthday celebration with another friend (she invited me to share her party) but none of my other (though they were few) friends showed up. I sat in the corner of the bar, drank mojitos and looked sad.

Adam has been pestering me about what I want for my birthday.  I said a necklace with a baby elephant hanging from it.  Adam thinks I REALLY need a new computer (remember I said the Power Book is sad). I think we will head out to the Apple store in the next few weeks to really make a decision.

4. I had some coffee this morning. Usually I do not drink coffee at all and I ESPECIALLY try not to drink it when I am very tired. Instead of waking me up it makes me crazy. I feel horrible and cannot focus on any once task. However today I had coffee on a not-so-tired morning and felt AWESOME. The coffee made me excited about my lunch of Burger King chicken fries which do a lot less to my belly than the yummy Jr Whopper with bacon and cheese.

I need to document the better parts of growing up someplace other than Facebook.
